Driving Course and Hypnotherapy From Your Home Dr.J.S.L. Wimbledon 2012 Hi Dave I drove down to the Kent coast and back these last couple of days. My anxiety about overtaking large vehicles is now almost gone. Also, when I was driving back I didn't even notice that I had joined the M25 from the M26 as I felt so confident! The drive back was at dusk/ night and I felt I coped well with this. Tips I have found very helpful; 1. Assessing the traffic on the motorway as you drive down the slip road, as well as the observation close to joining. 2. Focussing on the road ahead when overtaking rather than looking at the vehicle you are overtaking. 3. Relaxing my shoulders while driving. 4. The running commentary of the drive that you taught me to do. 5. Turning the radio/ music OFF when I start to feel overwhelmed, rather than using it as a distraction technique. 6. 'Reading' the road rather than trying to drive from memory. 7. Aiming to be no more than 10 mph below the maximum limit, if the road and traffic conditions allow in 60 MPH and 70 MPH limits. 8. Signalling earlier when changing lanes, most people do let you in. 9. Checking the slip road early on motorways for joining traffic and then making a decision whether to change lanes, slow down to let someone in front of me, or let them in after me. 10. Once I have decided it’s safe to overtake something, COMMIT to overtaking and keep going. 11. Regular two second checks on distance between me and the driver ahead. 12. Thinking of you saying 'very good' in a North East accent when I do something well! I am going to drive the Birmingham in early March. I feel nervous but know that when I am on my way all the tips above will really help me. With very best wishes Jo

C.H. A quick note, just to say thank you so very much for the course on Sunday: I feel more positive than ever about the situation. It was a real pleasure to meet you, and I thought you were brilliant both as a driving instructor and a hypnotherapist! All the best Cris
T.D. Hi David It's Tina, you saw me about a month ago. I thought I'd give it a month to see how it went and then give you an update. I've actually been driving ever since and for the last three weeks I've been driving alone to work and back and I really think it's been all down to your help. It was a brilliant experience and I would recommend it to anyone, thank you so much for your help. Very much appreciated. Tina

L.D. I highly recommend the nervous driver course. I passed my test many years ago but hated my driving lessons and never progressed on to driving independently. I had some refresher lessons in the past few years but again didn't take the next step on. I tried this course as a last resort and I found the approach both unique and very effective. The course has three elements. Firstly there is the opportunity to talk about the aspects of driving that make you fearful. The hypnosis part is very relaxing and finally the practical driving session is really constructive and helpful. After doing the course I feel I have made a big step forward and that finally driving can become a normal, everyday skill for me. Thanks for your help and best wishes Linda

Triona I was so nervous about driving in busy conditions that even a quick trip to the shops was a major logistical exercise. I found out about Dave’s course through a newspaper article and found him extremely helpful when I phoned for further information. My day course started with a full medical history followed by some very relaxing hypnotherapy. We then started driving. I was in full control of where we went and what potential “hazards” I might encounter (busy high street, M25, etc). Dave’s driving instructor experience was particularly important as he taught me elements of “city” driving that I hadn’t come across when I learnt to drive in a quiet country town. By the end of our time together, I felt far more confident of my own abilities and less apprehensive of other drivers on the road.
With best wishes
Val Wood What can I say to thank you, I feel totally different and that I want to drive now and I don't know why. You just have a calming effect on people and you understood and made me feel at peace. I wish I'd met you years ago and maybe if you had taught me I would never have got so bad. I cannot thank you enough and because of you, I believe I can do it.
Best Wishes
Samantha Do you remember me? We met earlier in the year. I am driving much more now, every other day probably. I drive a little further every time. We have moved which makes it easier to get the car out. I'd like to say thank you for your help. You may remember that before I saw you I could only go to one shop and back. Best wishes Samantha

I enjoy driving, but the test has so far been my nemesis! At my last attempt I was seized with such panic I could not regain my self-control and felt terribly depressed afterwards. I decided to try Dave's day course as a way to try and beat this problem.

Mell I did lots of driving after the day with you – taking trips to Colchester and even drove back from Gatwick through the tunnel – which was a mean feat! It has really helped but now it is certainly up to me, and it really is a case of use it or lose it. I do always know you are there if I need you and what you taught me does work. Oh I can drive in the dark now to Colchester which I would not have done before.
All the best
Miss M Wilkinson I cannot tell you the feeling of exhilaration at finally knowing I could do it. Since the day of the course it gets a little easier every time. No more taxis to carry the shopping home. All I can say to you is if you are anything like I was then go for it. It is wonderful feelings to have someone help you to get control of things again. That fear and panic was completely beyond my control and the course helped me to get that under wraps and be able to deal with it and get on with my life of being able to drive myself where I want to go. Yours sincerely Miss M Wilkinson
Alison Cowan I would really recommend booking a day with Dave if you are scared of driving for any reason. I had kept my fear a secret for 15 years and now I am proud to have overcome it. Especially in just one day! I feel I have made a good investment in my future and with Dave's CDs to guide me now he's not here I can keep that confidence going. I'm even thinking about buying my first car! Alison
Carl Thank you so much, I’ve driven more alone (without an accompanying driver) in the past 20 minutes since you left than I have in 6 years. I owe you so much. Carl (text)
Stef I just had to let you know that I have just driven to Penrith and back on the A66 today (despite having a rotten cold!). I actually enjoyed the drive and did not encounter any problems. Your driving lessons and hypnotherapy sessions have obviously worked well, and I am so pleased. Many thanks. Stef
Kim Thanks for the CD set you sent me - I have been meaning to email you for a while and let you know that since the course i started driving the car my mum had given me and then in Feb this year I bought a ford puma and am driving all over the place. I just got back from taking the kids to France and guess what -I drove there and back! So thanks for everything and although I don't always find it easy- i can't imagine my life now without driving! Thanks Dave Kim
Above are extracts from some testimonials received following the use of the CD set, hypnotherapy treatment and/or driver training. Below are two full versions.
Hi Dave Here's a testimonial for you to use however you see fit. I hadn't driven for over 15 years when I decided to tackle my long-standing fears head on, searched online for a suitable person to help and so booked a lesson with Dave at Nervous Driver. Driving had become a big scary thing in my mind for lots of reasons and I was very worried about getting behind the wheel again after so long. I had even considered cancelling the course at the last minute rather than face up to my fears. I really needn't have worried so much! Dave arrived at my house at 10am on a rainy Saturday in March. First of all he asked lots of questions about me, my life and my driving history. He did this in a way that made me feel very at ease and just talking about it with someone who understood was a real relief. The next stage was my first ever hypnotherapy session. I lay on a sofa in my sitting room having turned the phone off so there could be no interruptions. It felt like less than half an hour but Dave told me in fact the session had lasted for over 45 minutes. Afterwards I felt very relaxed and any fear of getting into the driver's seat had pretty much gone by this time. I then got behind the wheel and drove Dave's dual-control car for several periods of an hour or so up and down the nearby streets and later on right into a local town in the Saturday afternoon rush hour. The driving was split up with breaks for theory and some practical help on things I was struggling with. Dave drew me pictures of where the car should be say, when turning a corner with cars parked on both of the road. This helped me understand visually where I needed to put the car and I could see the positive results right away. We stopped for breaks if I started to get tired and after a sandwich for lunch the rest of the day just flew by. At the end I felt confident that I really could drive again and a lot of my previous fears and worries had just melted away. All I need now is to remember that confidence and keep practising. I would really recommend booking a day with Dave if you are scared of driving for any reason. I had kept my fear a secret for 15 years and now I am proud to have overcome it. Especially in just one day! I feel I have made a good investment in my future and with Dave's CDs to guide me now he's not here I can keep that confidence going. I'm even thinking about buying my first car!

Miss M Wilkinson Dear Nervous Driver I just wanted to write something to you about the course you are thinking of taking. I am not a young driver I am in my late 30’s so should be calm and in control. Ha! I contacted Dave at nervous driver a few weeks ago, as finally 6 years after taking my test I had bought myself a car. I could bring myself to drive it if my partner was seated in the passenger seat, though I had palpitations, I was sweating, I was almost hyperventilating at times, but I could drive it. Though even then I couldn’t even think about going near a motorway!!! My partner was very calm with me, saying all the right things telling me I was a good driver but still I could not face the thought of driving it alone. Twice I had somewhere I had to be when they weren’t around and ended up getting in a taxi at the last minute as I just couldn’t get past that fear. I searched the internet for things I could do and stumbled across the website. I made the contact and to be honest nearly had a heart attack at the price. (I only paid slightly more than that for the car.) However I knew I had to do something. So I booked it. I wasn’t holding out too much hope to be honest, I thought I was never going to be able to drive alone, the fear of the thought of it was crippling. Well I spent the day with Dave as you might, the morning talking then practicing the basics, spent the afternoon driving round. We even went onto a motorway (twice)….. The following day I had to go for dog food as I had run out. Something I would ordinarily have done by Taxi as I buy the large sacks, I have a large dog! I sat here for a few minutes car keys in hand. Then suddenly thought to hell with it I have to do it some time. Got in the car and drove myself the couple of miles to the pet shop. I cannot tell you that I felt completely at ease, I was nervous and sweating but I did it. For the first time I drove myself. I stood outside the pet shop and had to phone several of my friends because I couldn’t believe it myself. I cannot tell you the feeling of exhilaration at finally know I could do it. Since that day it gets a little easier every time. No more taxis to carry the shopping home. I can go and meet my partner after work and go over there for tea rather than them having to come here all the time. If I need to go somewhere I can. I still haven’t done the motorway alone; I am still practicing that one. Though I know I will do it when I need to (I haven’t had to go anywhere that required it yet) All I can say to you is if you are anything like I was then go for it. It is a wonderful feeling to have someone help you to get control of things again. That fear and panic was completely beyond my control and the course helped me to get that under wraps and be able to deal with it and get on with my life of being able to drive myself where I want to go.
Yours sincerely
